Some divorce lawyers bill all their expenses to their clients including copy costs, file maintenance, mail, and administrative costs. You may also be billed for the services of experts such as appraisals, tax accountants, parking and mileage, long distance calls, and financial coaches, or the lawyer may ask you to pay these costs directly. Some attorneys have made the decision not to charge clients for ancillary fees and rather charge a “file set up fee” which covers many of these expenses. You should ask your attorney how expenses are handled as these expenses may increase your attorney’s fees costs.
